Going on a local brewery crawl is ever better than a bar crawl. The beer is usually cheaper, you can usually get flights, and you’re supporting a small business! So I stared this series to let you know of breweries and areas that facilitate such a fabulous outing!
First up this week is on Long Island in western Nassau County on the south shore in a town called Bayshore. Up until this year, it would have only been two breweries within 3 miles, but now it’s three within 4 miles with the opening of The Brewers Collective! So text your friends and let them know, you’re making plans for this Saturday, you got it covered.
Before you go a couple tips:

- Pack some snacks
- Bring a growler
Stop 1: Destination Unknown Beer Company

Destination Unknown (or DUBCO for short) is one of my favorite breweries to hang at. Not only is the beer fabulous, but they have 2 floors and no shortage of games around. Their DIPA, Sore Thumb, is a local favorite (and available in cans), but there is so much more in their diverse line-up of beer. From stouts to sours, there’s a lot to choose from.
Stop 2: The Brewers Collective
1460 N Clinton Ave, Bay Shore, NY 11706
The Brewer’s Collective is the new kid on the block. In fact their grand opening is April 15th! They were known for their Useful Idiot once upon a time, but now they seem to be carving a niche for themselves as experimental and looking to history for inspiration. You’ll truly find some one-of-a-kind ales from their Picktish brewed with Heather to Witchbinder brewed with Sage and Roasted Pumpkin. While you’re drinking you can also play some sweet arcade games on their simulator for free.
Stop 3: Great South Bay Brewery
25 Drexel Dr, Bay Shore, NY 11706
Great South Bay Brewery is one of the largest breweries on long island and almost in NY state as a whole. They became a household name on Long Island for their Blood Orange Pale Ale. Since them they’ve won a Silver Medal at GABF, The Great American Beer Festival (like the Beer Olympics) and won a Gold for Hog Cabin, their Maple Bacon Porter. This is the last stop since there’s so much to do and it’s close to the highway for the ride home. Speaking of stuff to do you have many choices, besides the beer. There’s fuse ball, corn hole, TV’s playing games or shows and more.
That concludes this local brewery crawl. Three very different and diverse breweries, all within cheap ubering or designated driver distance.
